Stain Glass Window Pane Photo Frame

"Project of the Week" 3
Reuse an old window pain to make your own stain glass creation!

This week’s project took a little more time to create but it was definitely fun! Create your own stained glass photo frame from an old window pane.

Materials Needed:

Old Window Pane ($1 at the Habitat for Humanity Restore)
Desired Picture to Display
Instant Lead
Liquid Lead
Stain Glass Paint
Tape
Scrap Card Stock Templates (Cut and size to match picture or pictures your using)
Rubbing Alcohol
Cotton Swab
Wire (For hanging) – most craft stores will carry items for hanging
Brackets to attach wire (For hanging)

Step 1: Wipe both sides of the window pane with rubbing alcohol to remove any impurities on the glass.

Step 2: Cut the templates (if you have not done so yet to match the size of the pictures), once they are cut then position the pictures on the back side of the window where you would like them.

Step 3: Measure the instant lead and trim to the same size of the dimensions of the pictures or the templates. Once cut, apply the instant lead to the front of the window pane tracing the templates to create the border for the picture.

Step 4: Now get creative. Once you have decided what design you would like to create, use the liquid lead to make the outlines of the design. (Remember: DO NOT APPLY LIQUID LEAD INSIDE THE AREAS YOU JUST CREATED, THIS IS YOUR BORDER OR FRAME FOR THE PICTURE)

Step 5: Dry Overnight!

Step 6: Once the lead is completely dry, determine the stain glass colors you will be using and start applying the paint generously so the entire window is colored except where the pictures will show through.

Step 7: Let dry 24 hours!

Remove paper templates and clean up the backside of window pane again. Once it is fully dry you can add your pictures!

Enjoy!!!
